A California man died in a Nevada hospital after he was injured in a jet ski accident on the Arizona side of the Colorado River. Police in Bullhead City reported that 43-year-old Ricardo Aponte Almanza of Corona, California died Wednesday afternoon at University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
The police reported that Almanza was the most badly injured of the four people involved in the crash. The police went on to say that the injuries happened after the four were struck by a rented jet ski that a 26-year-old Las Vegas woman was operating. Police reported bystanders seeing the woman lose control of the jet ski prior the entering a designated swimming area at Community Park where the four victims were. All four of the victims were transported to a Bullhead City hospital. The injuries sustained by Almanza were considered so severe that he was later flown to a Nevada trauma center. A 21-year-old Las Vegas man remains hospitalized in Nevada while two other victims were treated and released, according to authorities.
Prior to the accident, police said the woman watched a safety video for jet ski renters as required by city law and wore a signed wristband to signify that she understood how to operate the watercraft. Police said the results of their investigation of the accident will be forwarded to the Mohave County Attorney’s Office, who will decide on possible charges.
Watching a safety video does not relieve anyone of liability in cases of this nature. Our office routinely successfully represents people in Jet Ski cases and injuries caused by a lack of experience are more common and more complex than many people think. In this specific case there is a badly injured victim from California who was injured in Arizona and is seeking treatment in Nevada. How Can We Help You?
